Google is about to launch the Pixel 10a – but you might want to buy the discounted Pixel 9a instead

It’s been nearly a year since the Google Pixel 9a arrived, so the timing feels right for its successor — and Google appears to agree. The company has now confirmed that the Pixel 10a will launch on February 18.

The announcement appeared across multiple official channels, including the Pixel Store, Google’s X account, and a short YouTube teaser. Together, these also offer a first look at the rear of the Pixel 10a.

Design-wise, the phone looks extremely similar to the Pixel 9a, featuring a familiar dual-camera setup on the back. The version shown is finished in a blue colorway, though Google is expected to offer additional color options at launch.

Google has confirmed that pre-orders will open on February 18, but it hasn’t officially shared full specifications yet. That said, leaks suggest the Pixel 10a may include a 48MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 13MP front-facing camera, alongside 8GB of RAM. Other rumored specs include a 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Tensor G4 processor, and a 5,100mAh battery.

A very familiar spec sheet

If those leaks are accurate, the Pixel 10a sounds remarkably similar to the Pixel 9a — to the point where it may feel more like a refresh than a true upgrade. Because of that, some buyers may be better off opting for the older model instead.

The Pixel 9a is already widely available and currently discounted in several regions. In the US and UK, Google is selling it for $399 / £349, down from its original $499 / £499 price tag. Unfortunately, Australia hasn’t seen the same price drop, where the phone still starts at AU$849.

Of course, leaks aren’t always reliable, and Google could still introduce meaningful improvements that haven’t surfaced yet. However, if the Pixel 10a launches at or above the Pixel 9a’s original price — $499 / £499 / AU$849 — it may be a harder sell while its predecessor remains available for significantly less.
