Tempted by the IKEA donut lamp? The upgraded Philips Hue Flourish might be an even better smart home buy

Philips Hue Preps a Brighter Flourish Table Lamp to Take on IKEA’s Donut Light

IKEA’s newly revealed Varmblixt donut lamp has been grabbing attention in recent weeks, but Philips Hue appears ready to respond with an upgraded lighting option of its own. A refreshed version of the Hue Flourish table lamp looks to be on the way — and it’s set to deliver a noticeable boost in brightness.

According to an early listing spotted on Amazon Germany (via Hueblog), the updated Flourish lamp will increase its light output from 806 lumens to 1,100 lumens. That jump should translate into a significantly brighter presence when used as ambient or accent lighting around the home.

Same Design, Brighter Light

For anyone unfamiliar with the Flourish range, the table lamp doesn’t feature a built-in LED like the Flourish pendant or ceiling light. Instead, it ships with a Philips Hue E27 smart bulb, allowing for full-color illumination and easy replacement whenever needed.

That included bulb is what enables the higher lumen rating in this updated model. Aside from the brightness upgrade, the lamp itself appears unchanged. Dimensions remain the same at 26.1cm wide and 17.5cm tall, so buyers will want to make sure they’ve got adequate space before picking one up.

Pricing Still Competitive — but Not Cheap

Based on the Amazon Germany listing, the upgraded Flourish table lamp is expected to launch at roughly the same price as the previous version. The older model is no longer available directly from Philips Hue, but it originally retailed for around $153.99 / £129.99 (approximately AU$225, though Australian pricing was never clearly listed).

That price includes both the Hue E27 bulb and the decorative glass lamp enclosure.

By comparison, IKEA’s Varmblixt donut lamp is set to launch in April for $99.99 (around £75 / AU$145, with international pricing still to be confirmed). For shoppers prioritizing affordability, IKEA’s offering remains the more budget-friendly option.

Still, with higher brightness and full Hue ecosystem integration, the upgraded Flourish table lamp could be a compelling alternative for smart lighting fans willing to pay a bit more.
